Activities
There are so many great things to do in this part of the world!
Some things to do during your stay:
We take our sandcastles seriously in this part of the world and
a day spent at Rathtrevor refining your building skills is a day
well spent. Industrious beach lovers can also take up clamdigging
and beachcombing on the sandy shores. At low tide, tidal pools
provide hours of entertainment but in summertime don't miss the
beach at high tide when the shallow water is warm and perfect for
swimming.
Tubing down the
river is a quintessential Vancouver Island activity and Riverbend
is the perfect location for taking the plunge. Enthusiasts
can launch their vessels from the shores of the Englishman River
and lazily float back to the resort. Remember your sunscreen!
Those
who love to hike and explore will be pleased to find networks of
trails that lead along the river, down to the ocean, or through
the forests to other parks. Local guides and tours are also
available to help you discover the natural beauty of this area.
Some great park trails to check out nearby are: Cathedral
Grove, Englishman River Falls, and Little Qualicum Falls.
With some
of the best salmon and halibut fishing in the world right here,
serious fishermen and women can charter a boat to have an experienced
guide lead them to the best fishing spots.
Your vacation
on Englishman river is the perfect opportunity to learn the art
of fly tying or to just cast a line for fun. A short walk
up the river from the resort will take you to some great fishing
holes.
Golfing enthusiasts
will love the fine selection of beautifully designed golf courses
ranging from nine hole to PGA calibre. Those who prefer their
golf on a smaller scale will also be thrilled to find some of the
best mini golf courses anywhere - right here. Ask us about
the greenfee discounts for Riverbend guests at Pheasant Glen in
Qualicum Beach and Fairwinds Golf Course in Nanoose Bay.
Sea kayaking and river
kayaking tours will take you off the beaten track to see some of
the more remote attractions this area has to offer - go for a few
hours, take in a sunset, or pack up and take a three day tour. Calm
ocean waters are perfect for novice and intermediate kayakers and
local guides can provide equipment, leadership and the experience
of a lifetime.
With one of the
healthiest marine environments in the world, Parksville is a great
place for divers to discover everything from little treasures like
sea anenomes and urchins to giant octopi, wolf eels, and the gentle
six gill shark.
All of our guests have
a free membership at the Fitness Connection while staying at Riverbend.
A ten minute walk from the resort, this 10,000 square foot facility
has free wieghts, stairmasters, lifecycles, cross trainers, treadmills,
rowing machines and stationary bikes. The gym also features
saunas, a juice bar, yoga and tae kwon do classes, a tanning salon,
and personal fitness training.
Cowboys and
Cowgirls can get saddled up and take to one of the many trails in
the area. Try a three hour ride or go for an entire day, an
unique way to explore the island.
It's just
a two and a half hour drive over the mountains from Riverbend to
the most western coast of Canada. A world class surfing, whale
watching and storm watching destination - this is where Vancouver
Island keeps the big ocean.
This fresh produce
market is located at the entrance to the Riverbend Resort.
Open for business during the summer months beginning mid-June, the
market sells deliciously fresh local produce, fruit and berries
grown right next door at Cormie Farm.
This market
is a great place to pick up fresh local produce, shop, have lunch
or grab an ice cream. Just take highway 4a going north and
look for the goats on the roof.
